“Yard of the Week” contest starts this week (5/6/12). Winners get to display the “Yard of the Week” sign in their yard for one week. Contest ends 7/2/12. Yards are judged on the following:

1. Yards neatly trimmed, edged and weed-free.
2. Shrubs, plants, bushes and greenery trimmed and well-kept.
3. Colorful flower beds and landscaping.

Our front entrance work has been completed and looks great! With the recent rain we have received, it has helped to “green up” the newly planted sod and the flowers really brighten up the entrance. It definitely competes with others in the area we are proud of work that has been done.

School will be out soon (end of May for Edmond Public Schools). This means that children will be out playing in their yards and at our park at all times of the day. They will also be crossing our streets and driveways, so please drive careful (and slowly) in our neighborhood and watch out as you back out of your driveway. Let’s keep the kids safe!

Spring Is Here!

Wow, Spring is finally here!

We have noticed people out mowing their lawns, getting flower beds ready and tidying up landscaping. Hopefully, cold weather is finally behind us. Don’t let the sun fool you in March! It is still easy to get a sunburn if you are not careful!

With the warmer weather comes a lot of outside activities. One of those activities is our annual “Yard of the Week” contest. It will be starting a little earlier this year on May 7th and end July 2nd . We decided to start earlier as it was difficult for many of us to maintain our yards throughout July and August due to the extremely hot weather. Yards will be judged by the Board each week on Saturday, with a winner announced by the following Monday. Pictures of winners will be posted to the website each week. Good luck to you and, hopefully, you will be one of our winners this year!

Our annual ice cream social will be moved from July to September. Hopefully, it will be cooler in September so more neighbors can enjoy this annual event! The date is still being determined. We will post the date on the website and send an email to all residents once the date is finalized. Other neighborhood activities will be announced on the website soon!

Well, it is almost February and we have had a very mild winter so far. If you think back to the last 2 winters, we have been fortunate not to have record breaking snowfall amounts by now. We still have many days of winter left, but many forecasters say we have a mild winter this year. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Anyway, we hope everyone in Arrowhead Valley is enjoying the many sunny and unseasonably warm days we have had so far…..

We have a few topics to list for our January post update. First, the Board would like to thank the homeowners who have paid their AVHOA dues for 2012. For the homeowners who have not yet paid, we are posting this friendly reminder that payment of $200.00 was due by 12/31/11. Per our covenants, if payment is not received by 2/1/12 a 1.5% late charge will be added. Payment should be sent via US Mail to: AVHOA, 4004 Chickasha, Edmond, OK 73013.

An additional topic seems to get brought up from time to time, especially when the weather is nice outside and the kids get out of the house to play outside. Please drive responsibly through our neighborhood and be mindful of children crossing the street or playing near traffic. Please watch your speed, especially where Anadarko and Chickasha streets meet Tahlequah Drive. These intersections seem to be the main areas to watch as you drive. We appreciate your attention.

Finally, don’t forget that we have a neighborhood directory available to you on the website and it is updated at least twice per year with new/updated information. The directory is password protected and only AVHOA residents have access. If you need access, please call a board member or email us at info@arrowheadvalleyhoa.com. Once we verify the homeowners request, we will be happy to provide the password to access the directory.

2011 AVHOA Holiday Lighting Contest Winners Announced!

The Holiday Lighting Contest was held on December 13th and our local firemen from station 4, who judged the contest, had a fun time touring the neighborhood. They started out at the McGaha’s home to enjoy some snacks and visit with others in the neighborhood. They were very thankful to receive the gift cards donated by AVHOA. They did a great job judging the homes and found that our neighborhood had many great displays this year! It was more difficult for them to choose! The following households were winners:

Griswold Christmas – Letourneau’s – 3900 Chickasha

Winter Wonderland – McAvoy’s – 3904 Anadarko

True Meaning of Christmas (Nativity) – Wilson’s – 1713 Chickasha

Honorable Mention – Ron and Mary Sue Hornbeek – 1716 Chickasha

Arrowhead Valley Holiday Events

The annual Arrowhead Valley Holiday Outdoor lighting contest will be held on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 PM.

Categories this year are:

Griswold Christmas
Winter Wonderland
The True Meaning of Christmas (Nativity)

Each category winner will receive a $40 gift card. Judging will be performed by our local fire station #4 on Tuesday, December 13th from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM. Bryan and Traci McGaha (3904 Chickasha) have volunteered to open their home to greet the firemen and provide some snacks. Stop by and say “Hi” to your neighbors and meet and greet YOUR local firemen. If you have not yet mailed your annual dues check, you may bring it with you and give to any AVHOA Board Member.

We are looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful lights and displays this year! Have a safe and fun time getting ready for the contest! Winners will be announced a few days after the judging.

ALSO, there will be an Arrowhead Valley Homeowners’ Association Christmas Gathering this year!

Homeowners are invited to attend this event on Saturday, December 17th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Kevin and Denise Wilson’s home (1713 Chickasha). It will be a casual come and go time to meet neighbors and friends. Please bring an appetizer of your choice. Desserts and drinks will be provided. This event is for adults only, please.

We hope to see you at both of our neighborhood association events!

The Board would also like to recognize and thank Carla Hill for decorating the front entry areas with the holiday decorations and lighting. We appreciate your work in making everything look great!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Although the weather is unpredictable (as it always is in Oklahoma), the temperature is colder and we have many leaves to rake and bag due to the latest wind storms, we all have a lot to be thankful for. It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is Thursday! And, Christmas will be here before we know it.

Please keep an eye out for an announcement later this weekend about the Annual AVHOA Holiday Lighting Contest. Our neighborhood firemen from station 4 will be performing the judging again this year! It’s always neat to have them tour our neighborhood and the kids love to see the big fire truck drive up and down our streets! Retrieve all of your holiday lights, decorations and displays and get started now to compete. There will be 5 different categories for this year’s contest.

We also wanted to remind residents that we mailed annual dues notices. Your payment will need to be postmarked by 12/31/11 and mailed to the address listed on the invoice (Arrowhead Valley HOA, 4004 Chickasha, Edmond, OK 73013). Dues this year are $200.00. In accordance with our By-Laws (Article XVI, Section 7-8) and our Covenants (Article VII, Section 7-8), dues over 30 days will incur a monthly 1 1/2% interest charge until paid in full.

Annual Arrowhead Valley Garage Sale is next Saturday , October 15th!

Newspaper ads will be placed in the Oklahoman and Edmond Sun next week. Cost to particpate is $15.00 and money will be collected on the dayof the sale.

Arrowhead Valley Annual Meeting

The AVHOA Annual Meeting is Tuesday, October 25th! The meeting will be held at the home of Shane and Natalie VanOosten, 3816 Chickasha and starts at 7:30 PM. Join us as we discuss business and progress the association has made over the past year. We will also discuss financial and committee information and much more. Your Board members will be on-hand to answer other questions you may have. We hope to see you there!

Arrowhead Valley Annual Garage Sale Date Set

The annual Arrowhead Valley Garage Sale date has been set for Saturday, October 15^th from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm!

A Board Member will place ads in the Oklahoman and Edmond Sun newspapers the week of the sale plus an email will be sent to homeowners announcing participating houses and special items for sale.

If you would like to advertise your “special” sale items to others in the neighborhood, please email info@arrowheadvalleyhoa.com closer to the sale date.

DEADLINE FOR THE ARROWHEAD VALLEY EMAIL SALE LIST IS Tuesday, October 11th at 9:00 pm. Look for the list in your webmail.

Last year we had 19 homes participate and it was a huge success. Please make plans now to join the sale in October!

Our most recent Yard of the Week Winner is Brent and Debi Stockwell, 1709 Tahlequah Drive. They do a great job maintaining their yard. All shrubs and trimming look good and their yard is weed free. The flowers in the front flower bed add a nice touch of color. Congratulations!
